In Vivo Hollow Fiber Model

The in vivo Hollow Fiber Model is a fast and economic approach with low variability either to find the lead compound for an in vivo tumor cell line of interest or to select a compound-affected cell line for an in vivo efficacy study. The method allows simultaneous evaluation of test items in up to three different tumor cell lines in two different compartments (s.c.  &  i.p. implantation) within the same mouse. These characteristics predestine the Hollow Fiber Model for drug screening in vivo.

Choose your tumor cell line of interest and test numerous compounds in the Hollow Fiber Model to select your lead compound. Because of the short assay time and the low group size, a minimum of compound is needed. ("In vivo compound screening")

Take your lead compound and test numerous tumor cell lines in the Hollow Fiber Model to select the most promising tumor model for a following xenograft study. Because of the high predictive power and the simultaneous testing on three tumor cells in a single mouse, a reduction in costs for pre-clinical drug development is achieved. The Test Model

The key element of the assay are semi-permeable fibers which allow access of test items ( <500 kDa: small molecules, antibodies etc.) to the encapsulated tumor cells.
